Mark Davis
Having grown up on the picturesque South Coast of New South Wales, Mark Davis was originally inspired by the colour and mood captured by local landscape artists. Over time, his natural appreciation for composition and detail drew him to the brilliance of the world’s great masters.
Art with a point of view
There is no single subject that defines Mark’s work. His paintings move from the vastness of the natural landscape to intimate still-life studies, with aviation and political satire also finding their place on the canvas.
Each brings its own challenge. A landscape calls for a sense of atmosphere and scale; a still life rewards patience and precision. In his satirical work, familiar faces and symbols become part of a larger story.
What connects these subjects is Mark’s attention to the choices that shape a painting: where the light falls, what deserves emphasis and which details are best left for the viewer to discover.
His work invites different responses, whether that is an appreciation of a place, a personal connection to a familiar object or a smile at the absurdity of politics. It is this range of subjects and perspectives that gives the collection its character.
